About the process

Hydrodipping (or Film Transfer Printing as its sometimes called) is the process of overlaying a sheet of liquified design onto an object via the use of a water tank & film activator. Unlike a vinyl wrap that can be removed, hydrodipping should be considered a permanent coating as parts must be properly prepared, primed, and a base coat color applied prior to the dipping process. The hydrographic film is laid on top of a heated tank of water, an activator sprayed with a HVLP spray gun, and the part is slowly lowered down through the liquified sheet into the water. The waters surface tension and film integrity allows complex patterns to be effectively transferred onto shapes effectively & evenly. Afterwards, a high quality 2k clear coat is applied to protect against UV damage, scratches, and wear. Just like any painted surface proper care must be taken to insure a long life.

Preparation before Hydrodipping

All items must arrive fully disassembled, cleaned, degreased, and ready to be primed. Painted metal parts may require media blasting or stripping first, we are unable to offer that service at this time. Any disassembly, extra cleaning required, or extra masking will be billed at $50/hr with a minimum 15 minute charge plus supplies for overly dirty items or items with stickers, glue residue, grease, etc that needs to be removed. Any labels, decals, stickers, or items NOT to be painted/dipped/destroyed need to be marked prior to arrival. Immersion Ink holds no liability for any item damaged during on-site disassembly however we will take every precaution possible to avoid any damages. Reassembly is optional and billed at $35/hr with a minimum 15 minute charge.
